Independent Electric Supply, Inc. opened in 1976 with ten employees to serve electrical contractors working in the high-tech aerospace industry. Today, Independent Electric Supply operates 18 electrical supply branches in the North California and Arizona
Independent Electric Supply also operates two specialty divisions—Independent Power Supply in Sacramento, Westminster, and San Diego, California; and Independent Utility Supply in West Sacramento and Tracy, California.
IES currently employs more than 450 people and manages over 1 million square feet of warehouse space.
In August 2011, Independent Electric Supply was acquired by Sonepar USA, a division of the privately held Sonepar Group.
